Dubai is a dynamic city where people from different cultures come together. The true spirit of community and compassion is evident in the lives of those who live there. I had the pleasure of telling Gulf News our story, emphasizing how these principles show themselves in our daily lives and in my relationship with my daughter, Nathalie.
Compassion as a Way of Life
My upbringing, rooted in the tradition of giving and empathy, has been a guiding light in providing Nathalie with a nurturing environment. It’s a world where:
- Her creativity
- Well-being
- Developmental growth
are paramount. Our practice of donating zakat is a reminder of our shared humanity and the need to look out for those in dire situations. This tradition of compassion is a legacy I am passionate about passing on to Nathalie.
Fostering Community Through Open Doors
Living in Dubai, many of us find ourselves miles away from our biological families. It has reinforced my belief in:
- The value of companionship
- The power of an extended community
Our home is always open to friends and community members. These gatherings are a classroom for Nathalie, teaching her:
- The importance of kindness
- The value of community
- The joy of sharing
Celebrating Traditions and Shared Joy
One of the most beautiful aspects of our life here is how Nathalie embraces and celebrates local traditions. Her excitement for:
- Eid morning prayers (dressed in her Eid best)
- Joining the community in prayer
- Giving and receiving Eidiye
is remarkable. In our home, this tradition extends to everyone, young and old, as a gesture of:
- Appreciation
- Shared happiness
The Ripple Effect of Our Actions
Through these experiences, Nathalie is learning important lessons about:
✓ The world
✓ Her place in it
✓ Acts of kindness
✓ The joy of sharing
✓ The warmth of community
These are reminders for all of us about what truly matters.
